ReadWriteGold Chrome Extension

Here is a checklist of items to verify to help get them setup:

1) Check that you are signed into both Chrome and Google Drive with the email address used for Read&Write for Google Chrome. You must be signed into both accounts with the same email address in order to have the extension authenticate your Chrome profile.

We also recommend checking to make sure that your Chrome account is syncing. In the upper right corner in Chrome you should see your username on a tab (you won't see this on a Chromebook) if there is a yellow triangle next to the name, click the icon and it will prompt to sign in again. If you don't see a yellow triangle, please click here and follow the instructions in Option 1 to disconnect the account using the instructions for Computer.

If you have multiple Chrome accounts, click the Chrome settings button with the three bars located at the right end of the address bar. Go to Settings and under Sign in it will show which account you're currently using. For more information about using multiple Chrome accounts, please click here.

Please note that account settings are not automatically shared between different accounts when you use multiple sign-in or have multiple Chrome profiles. Extensions such as Read&Write for Google Chrome will not be available in other profiles you use unless you have also added it to those accounts.

2) Check to make sure that the extension is installed in Chrome:

Click on the Chrome settings button with the three bars located at the right end of the address bar. Go to More tools > Extensions and verify that Read&Write for Google Chrome is there

3) Make sure Chrome is up to date:

Click on the Chrome settings button with the three bars located at the right end of the address bar. Go to About Google Chrome. A new tab will open and let you know if Chrome is up to date.

4) Check to make sure permissions to allow Read&Write for Google Chrome have been granted:

The permissions page should appear first time you try to use the web and Google Docs toolbars. If the purple puzzle piece icon for Read&Write for Google Chrome is not appearing in the Chrome Omnibox address bar or you don’t see the tab when you open a Google Doc, it’s likely that the permissions page was canceled, closed, or not accepted.

To check if permissions have been granted, copy and paste the link below into your Chrome address bar:

https://security.google.com/settings/security/permissions

If the extension has not been granted access click the Google Docs toolbar tab and the web toolbar icon in the Chrome address bar and grant access to the extension. Both toolbars require you granting permission in order to function.

5) Check to make sure Read&Write is associated with docs:

Open Google Drive. Once in Google Drive click the Settings icon (looks like a gear in the upper right corner) and go to Settings > Manage apps. Locate Read&Write for Google Chrome and tick the Use by default button if it is unticked. Read&Write for Google Chrome will now be associated with any PDF or ePub files. Please note that Word docs uploaded to Google Drive are not compatible with Read&Write for Google Chrome, only Google Docs can be used with the toolbar.
