Embedding an mp3 in a Google Site
1. Go to the Google Sites page where you want to post the mp3, and get into edit mode. Click the Insert menu, and select "More gadgets..."
2. Select "Add gadget by URL" and copy and paste the following line of junk into the "Enter the URL for a gadget you want to add":
http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/101762205312958577209/nplayer17_0.xml
3. Click the "Add" button. Then leave all the settings as-is and click "OK." You'll see an ugly little gray box that says "Google Gadget" and doesn't seem to do anything...don't worry...that's normal.
Click the blue "Save" button at the top of the page, to get out of edit mode. THE GADGET WILL NOT WORK YET. Keep reading.
4. Get your mp3. If the one you want is in iTunes, control-click (or right-click, or two-finger-click) on it and select "Show in Finder." That's the actual file. If it's NOT an mp3, i.e. if it ends in something like ".m4a" or some other suffix, this method may not work for you until you convert it to an actual mp3; we don't know yet, we haven't tested.
5. Attach the mp3 to the page via the "Add files" link at the bottom of the page.
6. Control-click or right-click or 2finger-click on the arrow, circled here in red:
From the popup menu that appears, select "Copy Link Address":
7. Go back into edit mode and click on the ugly gray gadget. You should see a little gear icon, click that. In the gadget settings window that appears, PASTE the URL you copied in the previous step into the box where it says "mp3 URL" (delete whatever's already in the box first.) It will look something like this:
https://sites.google.com/a/hanovernorwichschools.org/techsupport/howtos/google/embedding-an-mp3-in-a-google-site/yaketysax.mp3?attredirects=0&d=1
8. IMPORTANT: Delete everything after the "3" in ".mp3" at the end of the long URL, so that it looks more like this:
https://sites.google.com/a/hanovernorwichschools.org/techsupport/howtos/google/embedding-an-mp3-in-a-google-site/yaketysax.mp3
Add a display title too, so that visitors have an idea of what the sound file is, and click OK.
9. LAST STEP! Click the blue "Save" button at the top of the screen, and you should end up with something like this:
Press play...it'll take a second or two.
