Downloading YouTube Videos
Lately, we're having some intermittent issues with YouTube videos being allowed, then blocked unexpectedly. We've opened a ticket with our filter company and we'll be in touch when and if we know more.
In the meantime, this is one of several ways to download an offline copy of a YouTube video on your school Mac, so that if the filter malfunctions (or the network goes down), you can still show it. This ONLY applies to Mac computers, NOT to Chromebooks or iPads. (If the screenshots here are too small for you to read, click them to see a bigger version.)
1. Download and install GetTube, either from here: http://www.svcreation.fr or via Managed Software Update -> Optional Installs.
2. Open it from within the Applications folder and wait for the 15-second "please buy me" countdown, then click the blue "Cancel" button.
3. In the GetTube browser, find or paste the URL of the YouTube video you want and wait for it to load, get past any ads, etc.
THEN click the red "download" button in the upper right corner.
4. From the window that pops up, click the "video" button to download the video. (If you wanted only the audio, you could do that too via the other button.)
5. When it finishes downloading, go into your computer's Downloads folder and double-click the file. It should open in QuickTime Player.
